Mamata heckled: WB govt delegation to take up matter with Centre
Describing the incident as 'most unfortunate and pre-planned', an official said if the meet fails, 'we shall go for greater movement'.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government team would soon visit Delhi to take up with the Centre the issue of attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra during a protest in the national capital. "A ministerial-level delegation from the state will soon leave here for Delhi after the chief minister fully recovers," state's Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee said in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Describing the incident as "most unfortunate and pre-planned", Chatterjee said "we demanded an inquiry into the incident at secretary-level, but it failed to yield any result and there was no arrest as yet". "Now we will take up this issue at the ministry level and if that too fails, we shall go for greater movement," Chatterjee threatened.

Apart from this main issue, the state's ministry-level delegation would also take up the pending environment clearance issue with the Union Environment Minister to realise over Rs 20,000-crore investment in the state's only port town Haldia.

Chatterjee also demanded the Centre to restore the phased out 'Software Technology Park of India (STPI)' policy instead of allowing SEZ status to the industries. "I think this will solve many problems. The ministerial-level delegation will also take up this issue", he said.

The delegation would also discuss introduction a policy for uniform distribution of iron ores among various states, Chatterjee said. To a question, the minister said that the state government was ready to discuss with the Jindals for setting up the proposed integrated steel plant at Salboni in West Midnapore district.
