Solapur: Addressing his first rally after Lok Sabha's nod to Quota Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that misconceptions were being spread on the Bill. However, he hoped for its passage in Rajya Sabha "in accordance with the public opinion".
"There are misconceptions being spread about Quota Bill. However, I expect it’ll be passed in Rajya Sabha too. It was extended by a day for this Quota Bill only," he said at a rally in Solapur. The prime minister hoped that the Bill is passed in Rajya Sabha by members respecting the public opinion.
On the passage of the Citizenship Bill which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Modi said, "I want to assure the people of Assam and North East that their rights will not be hurt after passage of the bill."
PM Modi on Wednesday launched four-laning of Solapur-Osmanabad section of NH-211, underground sewerage system and three sewage treatment plants. He also laid foundation stone of 30,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The four-laned Solapur-Osmanabad highway will improve connectivity between Solapur and the Marathwada region. The housing project will primarily benefit the homeless poor like rag pickers, rickshaw pullers, textile and beedi workers, among others and involves an investment of Rs 1811.33 crore, of which Rs 750 crore will be provided by the Centre and the state as assistance, the PIB statement said.
Further, Modi has laid the foundation stone for a water supply and sewerage system as part of area-based development in the Solapur smart city area, by augmenting drinking water supply from the Ujani dam to the city and build an underground sewerage system.
The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 244 crore under smart city mission, is expected to bring about significant improvements in service delivery.
Modi is visiting Solapur for the second time since August 2014 when he had laid the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Maharashtra-Karnataka border section of NH 9. He had also commissioned the 765-kV Solapur-Raichur power transmission line then. He will also address the public in the city.
