KCR warns Centre against going back on Telangana
KCR says there is no question of waiting for Telangana.

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday said he is ready to wait for the formation of a separate Telangana to happen in the normal course but warned of a "catastrophe" if the Centre goes back on its announcement on the statehood issue.

"There is no question of waiting or beating. When Chattisgarh and Jharkhand were formed, the same process will happen here. It is an administrative process that remains to be completed," Rao said in Hyderabad.

Observing that the Centre cannot go back on the announcement it has made, Rao said a resolution by the state Assembly is not at all required for the formation of the new state.

"The Government of India has taken a step towards the formation of Telangana. It was expected that there will be a bit of reaction from Andhra region, prompted by some vested interests. Congress party at the national level needs some breathing time for the dust to settle down. After that, we cannot even imagine that they will go back on their promise," he said.

Putting the onus of formation of the separate Telangana on Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he expressed confidence that she would stick to her word.

"I am in touch with Prime Minister and Madam Gandhi. I am particularly thankful to her. Once she takes a decision, I know how she implements it. I was her colleague in the previous UPA Government. Nobody can change the decision of the

Government of India," he said.

He, however, warned of a "catastrophe" if Telangana state is not formed as announced. "If anything happens to Telangana, nobody can stop the catastrophe that will follow."

Asked about reports from Delhi that the Centre would try for a consensus on the formation of Telangana, he said it is a "senseless argument".

"Consensus is a senseless argument because anybody can ask for consensus. They should take the consensus of people of Telangana for the formation of Telangana state. Because there are more people in Rayalaseema and Andhra, you will ask for consensus of everyone? Was there consensus in 1969 Telangana agitation? Was there consensus when Telangana was merged with Andhra? Was there consensus when Gujarat and Maharashtra were separated?" he said.

He said the Assembly need not pass a resolution for the formation of the new state.

"Assembly resolution is not required at all. Government of India can go ahead with the formation of a state, whether the state Assembly says something or does not say anything. The Centre can go ahead. There is a Supreme Court judgement on the matter," Chandrasekhar Rao said.

"It is a simple Bill to be passed in Parliament. The quorum of Lok Sabha is 54. If 54 members attend and 28 vote, the Bill can be passed," he said.

He dismissed the ongoing agitation in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions for a united Andhra Pradesh as "sponsored".

"They are sponsored by vested interests who have illegal properties in Hyderabad. The political leaders are misleading students and common people of non-Telangana regions. They will lose their careers," he said.

Telugu Desam Chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi are putting evern chameleons to shame in changing colours over their support for Telangana statehood issue, he said.

"They are actually trying to protect their interests in the Andhra state that will be left after the formation of separate Telangana," the TRS leader said.

Hyderabad will not be a bone of contention in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, he asserted, adding "If somebody talks about Hyderabad, what will happen you will see".

What's your reaction?
