Bhopal: As the second phase of Covid-19 vaccination began on Monday, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Kamal Nath accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of going back on his bypoll promise of offering free vaccines to all.
“Even those with critical ailments and senior citizens are made to pay Rs 500 for the vaccine, where the fact is that common man is yet to find its turn in the vaccination,” tweeted Nath as the state embraced the second phase of the vaccination drive from Monday.
During the election phase a few months ago, BJP leaders made the tall promise of offering free Covid-19 vaccine to the public, Nath said.
Like in other states where the BJP promised the voters of free vaccine, CM Shivraj Chauhan had also assured voters of free vaccination if BJP remained in power.
BJP state secretary and the spokesperson, Rajneesh Agrawal, contested that Congress party always tries misleading the public.
The vaccination is free of cost in government hospitals and in private hospitals it costs Rs 250 per dose.
Meanwhile, on Sunday the state reported 363 fresh cases of infections, including 141 in Indore, again a hotspot of this virus. The state has recorded death of a man in last 24 hours, taking up the toll of casualties to 3,864. Much to the respite of authorities, 16 districts in the state did not report a single case on Sunday. On Saturday, the Indore city had reported 163 cases of infection.
Starting Monday, the second phase of the vaccination will cover 71.62 lakh elderlies in the state. These beneficiaries will have to carry their identity card and a medical certificate if they suffer from any serious ailment. Health and frontline workers who missed the vaccine shots could also register them for the vaccination.
