Hyderabad: Alleging witch-hunting of YSR Congress Party president and MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy by the CBI at the behest of the Congress high command, his mother and party honorary president YS Vijayalaskhmi knocked on the doors of Union agricultural minister and National Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and Trinamool Congress leader Sultan Ahmed in New Delhi on Thursday.
She also met Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar and complained to him about CBI's "underlying motives" in the case against her son and the attitude of the CBI joint director VV Lakshminarayana.
Vijayamma, along with her party leaders MV Mysoora Reddy, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy, spent the entire day meeting the heads of various political parties to seek their support in her fight against the Congress with regard to the alleged illegal assets case against Jagan.
The YSRCP delegation met the CVC for over 50 minutes. During the meeting with the CVC, Vijayamma demanded a probe into harassment of Jagan by the CBI by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
In the memorandum submitted to the CVC, the YSRCP alleged that Jagan was arrested prior to the bypolls to 18 Assembly segments and Nellore Lok Sabha constituency only to prevent him from campaigning.
Soon after meeting the CVC, party legislator Shobha Nagi Reddy told reporters that Vijayamma urged the CVC to order a probe by the sitting judge of the apex court so as to find out the "ulterior motives" of the CBI in the case against Jagan.
"We even complained about the attitude of CBI joint director VV Lakshminarayana to the CVC. The CVC promised that he would seek explanation from Lakshminarayana over this issue," said Shobha Nagi Reddy.
The YSRCP delegation led by Vijayamma also called on Sharad Pawar, Prakash Karat and TMC leader Sultan Ahmed separately and briefed them about the arrest of Jagan and the illegal assets case registered against the Kadapa MP.
Meanwhile, the Congress and the TDP criticised the Delhi tour by Vijayamma.
Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao wondered why Vijayamma, who tried to derive political mileage by alleging that there was a conspiracy behind the untimely death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy during the bypolls, had not raised this issue with prime minister Manmohan Singh to seek a thorough probe into it.
He criticised Vijayamma for knocking on the doors of the prime minister and heads of other parties only to protect her son who was jailed in the assets case.
TDP’s Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said Vijayamma went to the capital only to hold talks with the AICC top brass to promise her party’s support to UPA’s presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee in return for diluting the case against Jagan.
