In Maharashtra's Baramati, It's Sunetra Pawar Vs Supriya Sule In NCP's Big Family Showdown
Sunetra Pawar is the Baramati candidate for the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) while Sule will represent NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).

The final showdown begins for the Pawar vs. Pawar battle in one of Maharashtra’s most high-profile seats Baramati as Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar is set to contest against sister-in-law Supriya Sule from the constituency.

Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) leader Sunetra Pawar’s candidature as Baramati candidate was announced on Saturday. The announcement of Pawar’s candidature was made by Maharashtra NCP unit president Sunil Tatkare, hours after the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) declared its first list of five candidates for Lok Sabha elections from Maharashtra.

Supriya Sule, who is Sharad Pawar’s daughter and Ajit Pawar’s cousin, will represent NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) in Baramati.

On her candidature from Baramati, NCP candidate Sunetra Pawar said, “Today is a huge day for me. I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union HM Amit Shah, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar for showing faith one me.”

Earlier, when reports suggested Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar’s candidature against Sule from the Baramati constituency, the NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader said that “it is not a family fight as anyone can contest polls in a democracy.”

“How can this be a family fight? Anyone can contest elections in a democracy. Why are you bringing my family into this? It is just an ideological fight. I also said yesterday that if they have a strong candidate, then I am ready to talk to that candidate. Whatever topic, time, or place they decide, I am ready to sit down and discuss” ANI quoted Sule as saying.

In the 2019 elections, Supriya Sule scored a hat-trick of winning the Baramati constituency as NCP nominee

From the NDA front, Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare earlier declared that he would contest the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate from Maharashtra’s Baramati constituency, but changed his stand on Saturday.

The leader of the Eknath Shinde-led party said he won’t contest the polls from Baramati in Pune district, which is the political stronghold of NCP founder Sharad Pawar’s family.
