Govinda says it's a custom to distribute money to dancers and singers on Holi.

New Delhi: Congress MP from Mumbai North and Bollywood star Govinda has justified giving money to people outside his home on the day of Holi.

In his reply to Mumbai Suburban Collector and District Election Officer Vishwas Patil on Monday, Govinda said that it is an age-old custom to distribute money to dancers and singers on Holi.

"If someone who is in trouble comes to you for your blessings and help then it is Indian culture to bless and help them. I feel people have made it a big issue for no apparent reason," said Govinda.

Govinda said he did not know the people who came to his residence and were singing and also pointed out that his residence fell outside his political constituency.

The actor-tunred-politician was showing distributing money to eunuchs outside his Juhu home on Holi.

He is unlikely to get a ticket from the Congress in the General Election.

Parliament records show that the actor has attended just 12 per cent of all the Parliament sessions in the past five years.

Govinda had had a relatively good year in 2005, attending 15 sessions out of 85. The numbers were less pleasing the following when his attendance fell to seven out of 77. 2007 saw the worst with the actor attending only two sessions out of 66.

What's your reaction?
