Government won't promulgate land ordinance but include 13 points to reform land law: Modi
The ordinance will lapse on August 31, six weeks after the commencement of the Monsoon session -- July 21.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday made it clear that his government will not promulgate land ordinance but include 13 points to reform the land acquisition law to benefit farmers.

In the 11th edition of his radio address 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi said, "We are ready to amend land acquisition act to benefit farmers, who were subjected to misinformation leading to a lot of apprehension in their minds on the law. I have decided that the Land ordinance be allowed to lapse."

The Land Acquisition Act, 2013 had exempted 13 acts from its purview with the condition that they would be included under the purview of the act within one year. The NDA's ordinance brought these 13 acts under the new land law.

The ordinance will lapse on August 31, six weeks after the commencement of the Monsoon session -- July 21.

The Prime Minister also congratulated teams on the success of Jan Dhan Yojana. "Jan Dhan Yojana has completed one year. We achieved so much in remarkable time. 17.74 lakh bank accounts opened by poor under Jan Dhan Yojana and Rs 22,000 crore deposited in them," he said.

Modi also spoke about the recent violence that hit his home state Gujarat. "The recent violence in Gujarat has anguished the entire country; but situation brought under control quickly," said Modi.

Hardik Patel, leader of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, had brought Ahmedabad to a standstill On August 25 with a massive show of support that took a violent turn following his brief detention by police. In subsequent violence, 10 persons were killed and many injured, prompting authorities to clamp curfew in parts of the city.
