Lucknow: To strengthen party base in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections in 2019, the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) is trying its best to woo the rebels who abandoned SP and contested the recently concluded municipal corporation elections as independent candidates.

Speaking to ETV, Samajwadi Party Spokesperson, Rajendra Chowdhary said, "There are several party members who have registered victory in the Uttar Pradesh civic elections as as independent candidates. The party is thinking to re-induct these leaders. There are many such candidates who have given clear indication that they want to re-join Samajwadi Party. However, the final call in this regard will be taken by our national president Akhilesh Yadav."

Samajwadi Party managed to bag only 28 municipal councillor seats in state capital Lucknow while 18 rebels, who fought as independent candidates, came with flying colours in 110 seats. If these 18 rebels somehow decide to re-join the SP, it will definitely boost the party's morale. "BJP has only won 15% seats in Ballot paper areas and 46% in EVM areas," the beleaguered leader tweeted, without citing any data.
