Ex-vice president Shekhawat dies in Jaipur
Shekhawat contested the 2007 presidential election as an independent candidate.

Jaipur: Former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat died at a Jaipur on Saturday. The 87-year-old politician was suffering from lung and chest infection.

Shekhawat was admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital on Thursday after he complained of breathing problems.

He was declared dead at 11.10 a.m., hospital officials said.

He is survived by his wife Suraj Kanwar and a daughter. Shekhawat's wife and son-in-law Narpat Singh Rajvee were present at the hospital.

Shekhawat contested the 2007 presidential election as an independent candidate backed by the National Democratic Alliance, but lost to United Progressive Alliance candidate Pratibha Patil.
