'Extreme' action should not be taken against bureaucrats, says UP CM
Bureaucrats should work hard and complete all government projects and any delay would not be tolerated, said UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Uttar Pradesh: Emphasising the need for a "good atmosphere and free hand" to bureaucrats to work, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said he was aware that stern action against them will fetch him votes but he does not think that "extreme" action should be taken against them.

He also said that if votes for Samajwadi Party decrease, officers will also have to face hardships.

Addressing bureaucrats during IAS week programme, Yadav said "I am aware that action against them pleases the public and will also fetch votes for my party in the coming elections. But we want to give a free hand to officers and work in a good atmosphere."

Releasing the development agenda of his government on the occasion, Yadav said that all the pending works should be completed within the fifth year of his government.

"The officers should work hard and complete all the projects of this government and any delay would not be tolerated," said adding that those who perform good will be rewarded.

Answering a query on poll-related surveys, the Chief Minster said, "elections are in other states but the survey is being done in UP where polls are still a year away."

"I still have a year for working on all the shortcomings," he said adding, people have a fair understanding of what is good for them and they do not fall prey to any survey.
