Kolkata: On a day Rahul Gandhi visited West Bengal to rejuvenate Congress, the party on Saturday received a jolt as its MLA Abu Naser Khan Chowdhury switched over to Trinamool Congress saying development is not possible without Mamata Banerjee.

"I am absolutely certain that without Mamata Banerjee development is not possible," Abu Naser, brother of late Malda Congress strongman ABA Ghani Khan Chowdhury, said after joining TMC.

Veteran Congress MLA Rabindranath Chatterjee had joined TMC last week.

TMC Secretary General and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said that all those who want to develop Bengal would stand beside Mamata Banerjee.

During his visit in Kolkata Rahul Gandhi slammed the Banerjee government saying that it failed to usher in development in the state.

"Pevious Left Front government had put brakes on the development of Bengal. The people thought that Trinamool Congress will come and take the state forward, but after it came to power, it put the brakes on development... continuing the deadlock," Gandhi said.
