Imphal: Sitting Congress MP T Meinya will contest from Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency, while former party MLA Thangso Baite will be the Congress nominee in the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, party sources said on Monday.
Party sources said while Meinya was favoured by party's central leadership, the state unit and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had strongly pleaded for MLA I Hemochandra to be party candidate in the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.
With the announcement of the names of the candidates by the party's central leadership, state unit office bearers and leaders would hold a series of meetings to settle all differences among them and work for the success of Meinya and Baite.
While Outer Manipur will go to polls on April 16, elections would be held on April 22 in Outer Manipur constituency, election office sources said.
