New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) minister Firhad Hakim on Saturday said that Congress is free to leave the government in West Bengal.
The statement came after the West Bengal Congress said that they would like to exit the state government after TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's decision to not support Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's candidature for the post of President.
Mamata is still defiant on supporting former president APJ Abdul Kalam for the President's job.
The West Bengal Congress wants to part ways with the Trinamool Congress. West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday decided to write a letter to party President Sonia Gandhi urging her to permit the state unit to quit the West Bengal Cabinet.
The West Bengal Congress Legislative Party resolved that the party is finding it uncomfortable to be a part of the Mamata Banerjee government under the present circumstances.
The Congress MLAs decided to oppose the state government policies which they find erroneous on the floor of the Assembly. Till now the Congress had refrained from opposing the policies inside the Assembly and has voiced its reservation to protests on the streets.
