Chennai: DMK chief K Karunanidhi on Friday targeted the J Jayalalithaa government over the setting up of a one-man commission to investigate the Chennai building collapse tragedy.

Alleging that the one-man commission was an eye wash to help the government escape, the veteran leader suggested a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

He said that an investigation by the CBI alone can expose the irregularities and beneficiaries.

It is almost a week since the under-construction building on the outskirts of Chennai collapsed. Rescue teams have managed to pull out 27 people alive. But as many as 61 people have been declared dead.

While CM Jayalalithaa has accused the builders of the accident and promised action against them, the police have arrested six people in connection with the case.
