Centre rejects Varun's plea to revoke NSA
Varun says he is facing hostile governments at the Centre and state.

New Delhi: Central Government on Saturday rejected Bharatiya Janata Party leader Varun Gandhi's plea for lifting the National Security Act (NSA) slapped on him by the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Home Ministry sources said they received a representation from Varun requesting revocation of NSA imposed against him by the Mayawati government.

However, the ministry decided not to intervene or revoke the order as the matter is pending in the Supreme Court.

Reacting to the Centre's decision, Varun said that he is facing hostile governments both at the Centre and state. The BJP, too, alleged that the United Progress Alliance Government's rejection of Varun's plea to lift the NSA imposed on him is a ratification of the "vindictive and vote-bank politics" of the Congress.

"The UPA led by the Congress has ratified and manifested its conventional vindictive and vote-bank politics by rejecting the plea by Varun Gandhi," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar was quoted as saying by the PTI in New Delhi.

The 29-year-old leader, who will make his electoral debut from Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on March 29 by Uttar Pradesh Police under the NSA for allegedly inciting communal tensions.

He was granted two weeks parole/interim bail on April 16 by the Supreme Court.
