New Delhi: The BJP has reacted sharply to the Prime Minister's statement on Thursday describing the Agra summit as a fiasco.
Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday, "The Prime Minister has lost his sense of balance when he describes the Agra summit as a fiasco. It was the Vajpayee government's uncompromising stand on cross-border terrorism that was responsible for the non-issuance of a joint statement."
Ravi Shankar Prasad then criticised the Prime Minister for comparing Gujarat riots with Holocaust. He reminded the PM of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
He also described the Prime Minister's statement as: "A desperate rattling of a Prime Minister who is much weakened and who does not enjoy authority in the Cabinet, backing of his party and supporting parties."
Meanwhile, Congress Spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi was quoted by news agency PTI as saying that the "intemperate" language used by his BJP counterpart Ravi Shankar Prasad shows "who has lost his equilibrium and balance".
"To use such derogatory and insulting words for an intellectual like Prime Minister ... it itself proves who is bankrupt and who is not," he said.
Use of such terms shows the true chaal charitra and chehra (character and face) of the opposition party" which has old habit of "debasing the political discourse", he was quoted by PTI as saying.
