Aiyar calls Jaitley 'fascist', BJP won't bear it
Party warns it won't allow Rajya Sabha to function.

New Delhi: The BJP has warned it will not allow the Rajya Sabha to function until nominated member Mani Shankar Aiyar aplogises for calling their leader Arun Jaitley a “fascist” on Monday.

The party also wants Aiyar, a former union minister and a senior Congress leader, to apologise to BJP member M Venkaiah Naidu. "There are several bills pending in Rajya Sabha. We want to support passage of these bills provided the words uttered by Aiyar are taken back and he apologises. Till then we will not allow the House to function," said Deputy Leader of BJP in the Upper House S S Ahluwalia.

"We allowed the House to function yesterday (Tuesday) as the government requested that the Finance Bill be passed, but later in the evening we forced an adjournment on the issue," said Ahluwalia after a meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary party.

Ahluwalia said Aiyar was a nominated member and a former minister, so it was the government’s responsibility of ensuring that he apologises for his "unbearable remarks".

Jaitley is the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
