New Delhi: There is no end to the political firestorm in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the controversies surrounding Lalit Modi. Demanding her resignation, Aam Aadmi Party workers are protesting outside External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's residence in Delhi.
Over 300 volunteers, including AAP MLA from Palam, Bhavna Gaur, protested outside Swaraj's residence in Lutyens Bungalow Zone in central Delhi. They also demanded sacking of Rajasthan chief Vasundhara Raje.
Swaraj, however, was not present at her residence at that time of protest. The External Affairs Minister has left for the United States to attend the World Yoga Day function at the United Nations.
"The Modi government says 'Na Khaenge, Na Khane Denge'. In such a case, it is the moral responsibility of the BJP and the government to sack Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje who helped Lalit Modi," AAP youth wing leader Vikas Yogi said.
No one was detained in the protest, however, police hoarded AAP volunteers into buses only to drop at the Race Course metro station.
The politcal row erupted when Swaraj accepted that she signed the documents of the former Indian Premier League chairman for travel to United Kingdom (UK). However, the opposition parties have been claiming that she went out the way to help him. The Congress has accused Swaraj and the BJP of having a quid pro quo relationship with Lalit Modi.
Swaraj has maintained that she signed the papers only on "humanitarian" grounds as he had to visit his ailing wife in Portugal. Strongly defending Swaraj, the BJP has claimed that the External Affairs minister has done no wrong.
