With the ICC World Cup 2023 around the corner and the Asia Cup 2023 already underway, the former cricketers keep coming up with their team predictions focusing majorly on Team India. The experts of the game keep on guessing the possible combinations for the upcoming games or sharing their thoughts on players who failed to make the cut in the squad. It’s a common trend nowadays and the fans are also curious to know the experts’ opinion but legendary Sunil Gavaskar has strictly condemned this practice.

The former India captain questioned the necessity of having someone else’s opinion, especially foreign ex-cricketers, on the Indian team. Speaking with Sports Today, Gavaskar lashed out at overseas cricketers for constantly sharing their thoughts on Indian cricket.

“You have a South African saying ‘he should’ve been in the team’. An Australian is saying ‘he should have been in the team’. How is it their concern? They are not selectors for us. This happens a lot of times. Somebody is saying ‘he should bat at No.3. He should bat at No.4’. I mean come on, we don’t need your advice,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was also a part of the discussion, agreed with Gavaskar and said hardly any former Indian cricketers comment on matters of England, Australia and South Africa.

“I agree. 100% correct. After playing for their respective teams during their career, they are now coming and selecting Indian teams. How does this happen? This is something that amazes me. No one allows us to go to Australia or to go to England and make their team. But the so-called legends comment about India and say who should bat No.4 or No.3. Who will bowl the first bowler or the last over? Wow,” Harbhajan said.

India to Face Pakistan on Sunday

Far away from the outside noise, Team India gears up for their next assignment – their first Super Four game at the Asia Cup in which they face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in Colombo. Pakistan have been terrific in the ongoing tournament and will definitely pose a tough challenge to the men in blue. However, the rain is also in focus as Sunday’s weather might play spoilsport.
