Shane Bond Joins Rajasthan Royals as Assistant and Fast Bowling Coach
Shane Bond recently parted ways with five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, bringing an end to his nine-year stint with the franchise.

New Zealand fast bowling legend Shane Bond has been roped in by IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals as their new assistant and fast bowling coach. Bond had recently parted ways with five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians having served as their bowling coach for nine years.

Bond will fill the vacancy created after the departure of Sri Lanka fast bowling legend Lasith Malinga who has been named as MI’s bowling coach for the next season.

Malinga represented MI for over 10 years as a player. After retiring in 2021, he joined inaugural IPL champions RR in the backroom staff.

Bond oversaw the development of bowling talents including Jasprit Bumrah during his time with MI.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Royals. It’s a forward thinking franchise who are determined to do well and I’m excited about being part of their vision. The bowling group is a great mix of youth and experience, and it will be awesome to work alongside them,” Bond said in a statement.

RR Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara hailed Bond as a modern-day fast bowling great and hopes he will help turn franchise’s fortunes with his rich coaching experience.

“Shane is one of the greatest fast bowlers of modern day cricket, and brings with himself a wealth of experience and knowledge having mentored some of the best in the business. He has served in the IPL and in India for a number of years and is well versed with the processes involved within the franchise ecosystem. He is someone who has a keen eye for helping the best become even better and we are delighted to welcome him to the franchise, and look forward to seeing the impact he can make towards moulding us into a title-winning team,” Sangakkara said.

Since becoming the champions in 2008, RR have made the final just once when they were beaten by IPL debutant Gujarat Titans. Last season, they failed to make it to the playoffs, finishing fifth on the points table.
