'Police Should Confiscate And Warn': Sunil Gavaskar After Spotting Company Name on Indian Flag
Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has revealed he wanted to ask Shreyas Iyer a few questions but was distracted by someone waving an Indian flag with a company's name on it.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had a query for Shreyas Iyer following his solid innings against South Africa during a world cup match in Mumbai but was ‘distracted’ by an Indian flag with a company’s name on it.

Gavaskar said he wants the defaced Indian flags to be confiscated by the police and issue warning to those indulging in such acts.

“Yeah, I wanted to ask him (Iyer) something, but I got a bit distracted because there was an Indian flag with a company’s name on it. And you know, that is really not allowed. The India flag cannot be defaced by anything,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports following India’s 243-run win over South Africa at Eden Gardens.

“They (the flag-bearers) have gone now. In fact, I believe the police, next time they see something like that, should not only confiscate the flag but also warn those people not to put any advertising or whatever it is, whether a company or their product, on the India flag. I am sorry, I got a bit distracted. I know Ravi (Shastri) wanted me to ask Shreyas a question, but I was just looking at those guys, and trying to signal them,” he added.

While Virat Kohli and India bowlers took the limelight in the massive win, it was Iyer who played the role of the enforcer in the middle over on what was a difficult pitch to bat on.

Rohit Sharma had led a blazing start before the pitch slowed down as Keshav Maharaj and co applied the brakes on India’s scoring rate.

Along with Kohli, who peeled off a record-equalling 49th ODI century, Iyer stitched a 134-run partnership for the third wicket.

He scored 77 off 87 with the help of seven fours and two sixes to help India set a target of 327. Indian bowlers then took the centre stage as they skittled South Africa for a mere 83 to keep their team’s unbeaten streak intact.
