Bengaluru Man Fined With Rs 500 For Eating Manchurian Inside Metro, Video Goes Viral
Bengaluru man caught eating manchurian inside metro, slapped with Rs 500 penalty by BMRCL after video goes viral.

For the very first time, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has taken legal action against a passenger who was caught eating ‘Gobi Manchurian’ inside a metro coach. While consuming food inside the metro is against BMRCL’s regulations, no passenger had previously faced penalties for this violation. However, after a video of the offending passenger went viral, BMRCL decided to take action and imposed a fine of Rs. 500 on him.

In the video, which is known to have been shared by the passenger himself on social media, he can be seen laughing while continuing to snack inside the train. His friends are also heard berating him as an “uneducated fool” for flouting the rules, but he paid little heed and continued to relish his snack. His friends recorded a video of him enjoying Gobi Manchurian on the Metro, and once it grabbed attention, the police filed a non-cognisable report against Kumar and his companions.

Using CCTV footage, authorities managed to identify and locate the violator on Tuesday. They intercepted him as he deboarded at Jayanagar Metro station around 9.30 a.m. The passenger was subsequently escorted to the Jayanagar police station and fined Rs. 500.

In addition to the monetary penalty, Kumar also provided an undertaking at the station, committing not to repeat such behaviour in the future.

The violator, identified as Sunil Kumar, works at a prominent jewellery store in Jayanagar. However, the group boards the Metro at Sampige Road Station in Malleswaram daily to reach their workplace.

According to The New Indian Express, A.S. Shankar, the Executive Director of Operations & Maintenance at BMRCL, disclosed that such incidents are rare, as commuters typically adhere to the metro rules. Besides the ban on eating, metro passengers are also encouraged to use headphones or earphones while inside the metro to consume content or listen to music without causing disturbance.
