Prime Minister Narendra Modi receives a grand welcome from teachers in Gujarat as he arrives in Gujarat to launch a school of excellence initiative and various other projects.
Prime Minister Narendra is on a two-day visit to Gujarat from October 19 to 20. During his visit, Modi will also lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 15,670 crore.
The prime minister will be participating in five different events in Gujarat on Wednesday, including the inauguration of the DefExpo22 in Gandhinagar, followed by a launch in Adalaj and visits to Junagadh and Rajkot.

• Speaking at the launch of the Gujarat government’s Mission Schools of Excellence initiative in Adalaj, Gandhinagar, the PM said the recently launched 5G telecom service will take the education system to the next level in the country.
He pointed out that knowledge of English was considered as the mark of being intellectual even though the English language is just a medium of communication. “The 5G service will go beyond smart facilities, smart classrooms and well as smart teachings. It will take our education system to the next level,” the prime minister said. He advocated the use of local languages to make sure those uncomfortable with English are not left behind. “Earlier, knowledge of the English language was considered a mark of being intellectual. In reality, the English language is just a medium of communication,” the prime minister said.
• Prime Minister Modi launched the ‘Mission Schools of Excellence’ in Adalaj. He was welcomed by cheering crowds who showered flower petals as he arrived.
“The change in Gujarat in the past two decades, in the field of education, is unprecedented. 20 years ago, 20 out of 100 children didn’t go to school. A large number of those who used to go to school used to drop out by the time they reached standard 8. The situation of girls was worse,” he said. “There were villages where girls were not sent to school. In tribal areas, the few education centers that were available had no facility to teach Science.”
• The PM laid the foundation stone of a new airbase coming up in north Gujarat near India-Pakistan border and said it will emerge as an effective centre for the country’s security. Speaking after inaugurating the Defence Expo 2022, Modi also said that defence forces will release a list of 101 more items that cannot be imported. With this 411 defence-related goods can only be procured locally, he said, adding that the air base coming up at Deesa in Banaskantha in North Gujarat will “emerge as an effective centre for the security of the country”.
• Talking about making the Indian defence sector self-reliant, the PM said “Indian defence companies today are becoming a significant part of the global supply chain. We have fast growing defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Many jobs will be created for the youth in this sector.”
• The PM addressed the audience as he launched the DefExpo22. He said, “The biggest Defence Expo of the country so far has marked an emphatic beginning of a new future. I know that this has also caused inconvenience to some countries but several countries, with a positive mindset, have come with us.”
“It is the first Defense Expo where only Indian companies are participating,” he added. “There is hope for the world, there are opportunities for cooperation for friendly countries. I’m delighted that when India is giving shape to these opportunities of the future, 53 African nations that are friends of India are standing shoulder to shoulder with us.”
• The Prime Minister inaugurated the DefExpo22 at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar. The Indian Pavilion of the expo is to be inaugurated shortly by the PM.
• As per the PM’s itinerary, he will first inaugurate the DefExpo22 at Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gandhinagar. The Expo, being held under the theme ‘Path to Pride’, will have the largest ever participation in the exhibition, a PMO statement said. At the India Pavilion of the expo, he will unveil HTT-40, the indigenous trainer aircraft designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The aircraft has state-of-the- art contemporary systems and has been designed with pilot-friendly features, the statement said.
During the programme, he will also launch ‘Mission DefSpace’, aimed at developing innovative solutions for defence forces in the space through industry and startups. He will later lay the foundation stone of the Deesa airfield in Gujarat. The forward airforce base will add to the security architecture of the country, it said.
• At noon, the PM will launch the ‘Mission Schools of Excellence’ in Adalaj, following which he will lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Junagadh.
• The PM will later inaugurate inaugurate a three-day ‘Indian Urban Housing Conclave’ being organised by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry in Rajkot. The ministry said the event would provide a platform to all stakeholders to demonstrate their technologies as well as deliberate upon various options of technologies, materials and processes for large-scale adoption.
The prime minister will also dedicate and lay the foundation stone of multiple key projects in Rajkot after which he will inaugurate the exhibition of innovative construction practices there.
