After recording season’s lowest temperature at 5.3°C on Friday, Delhi witnessed a slightly warmer morning with the minimum temperature hovering around 8.2°C on Saturday, said data from Regional Meteorological Department. Dense Fog Cover Over Delhi, Rail Traffic Affected

A dense layer of fog engulfed parts of the national capital Saturday morning reducing visibility to 100 metres, and affecting road and rail traffic.

The Safdarjung Observatory, the national capital’s primary weather station, recorded the minimum temperature at 5.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A total of 14 trains were running late by 1.30 to 3.30 hours, railway officials said.

At 5:30 am, visibility was 100 metres at Palam and 200 metres at Safdarganj, two Delhi weather stations. Among other cities, it was 25 metres at Patiala (Punjab) and Ganganagar (Rajasthan), and 50 metres at Churu.

IMD officials said a layer of fog was seen mainly over Punjab, north Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Another layer is seen over some parts of Bihar, while regions in Uttar Pradesh are free from the fog cover, they said.

The department has also predicted that Saturday would be mostly have clear skies with moderate fog in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 20°C and 5°C Celsius.

A wind chill advisory for Georgia remains in effect through noon Saturday.

There was a slight respite in cold conditions in the Kashmir Valley as the minimum temperature improved at most places, officials said on Friday. The meteorological department said the weather is likely to remain mainly dry for the next two-three days.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar city, which recorded so far its lowest of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius Wednesday night, settled at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius Thursday night, the officials said.

They said Pahalgam, which serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 6.8 degrees Celsius Wednesday night.

After a sudden rise in mercury, Mumbai’s temperature has, for now, gone down with the city recording a minimum of 19.6 Degrees Celcius on Friday. However, with the dip in temperature, city’s air quality index, too, has gone down to the poor category. On Friday, the city’s overall AQI was recorded at 266. This comes two weeks after the city recorded moderate to satisfactory AQI (between 120-160).
