'Hit me Twice on the Foot': Heinrich Klaasen Apologises After Celebrating in Mark Wood's Face
Heinrick Klaasen celebrated his century by letting out a loud roar in the direction of Mark Wood for which he apologised later.

South Africa handed England their biggest ODI defeat (in terms of run-margin) when they cruised to a massive 229-run in a cricket world cup 2023 contest at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Henrich Klaasen roared, literally, with a blazing century, belting 109 off 67 to propel South Africa to 399/7 – the most runs conceded by England in ODI history.

Klaasen reached his hundred with a four and a six off successive deliveries from England pacer Mark Wood. And then let out a huge roar in the direction of the bowler who wasn’t impressed with the exaggerated celebration.

Klaasen though quickly realised his emotional outburst and apologised to Wood after England collapsed to be bowled out for 170 in 22 overs.

The South African said he was hurting from copping two blows to his foot off the bowling of Wood which led to the emotional outburst.

“I didn’t say anything to him,” said Klaasen after the match. “I did go and apologise immediately and after the game. He did hit me twice on the foot, which is hurting quite a bit, it’s just pure emotion. And yeah, once again, I’m sorry for him and to the English boys but it’s pure emotion that just came out and sometimes it’s difficult to control.”

“But I did apologize straight away and spoke to him after the game and hopefully from my side everything is sorted,” he added.

England captain Jos Buttler said Klaasen didn’t have to celebrate in Wood’s face but credited the batter for realising his mistake.

“I think he was obviously emotional to score 100,” Buttler said. “I don’t think he needed to celebrate in Mark Wood’s face and credit to him, he recognised that a couple of seconds after and he apologised. They played a great knock and I think he apologised straight away so there’s no ill feelings there.”

Klaasen is the fourth South African to have struck a century in the ongoing world cup after Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen.
