Amazon To Block Promotions For Employees Not Returning To Office 3 Days A Week
Amazon tells employees that if your role is expected to work from the office 3+ days a week and you are not in compliance, your manager will be made aware and VP approval will be required

Amazon’s employees may not be able to get promotions if they do not return to the office. The e-commerce giant said those employees who are not in compliance with the work-from-office directives will need the vice-president’s approval for promotions.

According to a report by Business Insider, Amazon told employees through an internal communication, “Managers own the promotion process, which means it is their responsibility to support your growth through regular conversations and stretch assignments, and to complete all required inputs for a promotion.”

The company said, “If your role is expected to work from the office 3+ days a week and you are not in compliance, your manager will be made aware and VP approval will be required.”

In February this year, Amazon announced a work-from-home policy asking employees to mandatorily return to the office at least three days a week with effect from May.

Following this, in March, as many as 30,000 Amazon employees petitioned the company to drop the work-from-office policy. In May, Amazon employees in the US also protested during the lunchtime demonstration against the policy.

In August, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also told employees, “It’s past the time to disagree and commit. If you can’t disagree and commit, it’s probably not going to work out for you at Amazon because we are going back to the office at least three days a week.”
