The Mumbai police have received a complaint from the director of a reputed management institute alleging that vulgar and obscene social media posts about their female staff and some students are being circulated by an Instagram page.
The police are now investigating two private pages named mba_memes and aamaadmiparty_mba on Instagram which share memes related to the lives of business management students.
According to Hindustan Times, the complainant told the police that some of the posts on the page contained pictures and voice-overs of individuals from the college. It also contains a voice-over in which three people make objectional remarks against the director,” the complainant added.
The deputy director also alleged that the comments on the concerned posts are full of obscenities. The institute took note of the vulgar posts when some of the students brought it to the director’s attention.
The complaint further alleged that some of the posts on the other page had names of the students from the organisation and also made comments about their love life.
“There were also some pictures on this page that showed couples in compromising positions with them labelled with the names of some other students,” the complainant said.
“Based on the screenshots and other details submitted by the college authorities, we have booked an unknown person who runs these two pages under sections 292 (distribution and public display of obscene material) and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code alongside the relevant section of the Information Technology Act,” an officer from the Juhu police station told HT.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched in the case and the police have started interrogating some students of the institute.
