Jo Jung-Suk And Shin Se-Kyung To Play Lead In Historical Drama Sejak?

Popular South Korean stars Jo Jung-Suk and Shin Se-Kyung have been roped in to play the lead in the much-anticipated historical melodrama Sejak, The Enchanted. According to a report by Soompi, the upcoming series will be aired on the television channel tvN. On October 31, tvN released a statement, sharing the announcement that Sejak’s lead pair had been chosen.

The news has spread excitement among K-drama lovers, especially because Sejak will bring Jo Jung-Suk back to the small screens after a gap of about two years. Although the premiere date is yet to be finalized, Sejak will reportedly premiere in January 2024.

“The new historical romance drama ‘Sejak’ is scheduled to air in January next year. The specific air date is yet to be confirmed,” read the TVN announcement, as cited by Soompi. Sejak has stirred up a lot of anticipation in the Korean drama industry already. The show’s vintage historical setting and the promising cast are expected to give viewers a unique viewing experience.

Sejak is written by Kim Sun Deok — a scriptwriter best known for tvN’s romantic drama The Crowned Clown. According to Soompi, Sejak’s story is set against the backdrop of power struggles and political complexity. It is the cruel love story between King Yi-In (Jo Jung-Su) and Kang Hee-Soo (Shin Se-Kyung). Yi In is plagued by royal and political troubles from his opponent while Kang Hee-Soo has ulterior motives. Driven by vengeance, she seeks to seduce the King, but in a dark twist of fate, gets seduced and smitten by the King, falling for him.

With romance at the helm of it, Sejak also seems to deal with intricate and dangerous power dynamics. The changing equation between King Yi-In and Kang Hee-Soo is also something to look forward to. The teaser and trailer of Sejak is yet to be unveiled.

Jo Jung-Suk was last seen on the small screen in the 2021 romance medical drama Hospital Playlist Season 2. Presently, he has two films lined up in his pipeline. One is director Choo Chang-min’s tentatively titled movie The Land of Happiness and the other is director Kim Han Gyul’s upcoming drama Pilot. Meanwhile, Shin Se Kyung’s last appearance was on the tvN drama Arthdal Chronicles: TheSword of Aramun. The show concluded this year on October 22.
