India captain Harmanpreet Kaur sustained an ankle injury during the third T20I against England at Wankhede Stadium. The 34-year-old got injured while fielding and returned to the dressing room following a medical checkup on the field. It’s a big blow for India as they are already 0-2 down and have lost the series the injury only made things worse for them in their quest to get a consolation win.

It was the 16th over of the game when Charlie Dean mistimed a shot and Harmanpreet ran towards the ball to pick it quickly but she unfortunately tripped over it.

Smriti Mandhana took over the captaincy charge when Harmanpreet went back to the dressing room to get more medical attention.

Earlier, at the toss, Harmanpreet admitted that the batting has been the area of concern for them in the first two matches, while the bowlers have done well.

“We just want to play positive cricket. We were looking to bowl and we got that, we just need to go there and express ourselves. We got some positive results, we need to keep working hard and keep doing the right things. Pleased with our bowling department in particular, they have done really well. Batting has been a bit of a concern. Amanjot in for Pooja,” she said at the toss.

Meanwhile, India rookie spinners Saika Ishaque and Shreyanka Patil made their first real impression in top flight cricket with three wickets apiece but England skipper Heather Knight’s 52 took the visitors to 126 all out in the third and final women’s T20I here on Sunday.

Ishaque (4-0-22-3) looked in her elements while Patil produced a fabulous 4-0-19-3, as England lost three wickets during powerplay and were reduced to 76/8 in the 15th over.

But Knight joined forces with No 10 Charlie Dean (16) to put on crucial 50 runs for the ninth wicket to give England bowlers something to defend.

Knight soaked the pressure well and hung around to unleash a late charge which had her finishing at 52 off 42 balls with three sixes and as many fours.

Brief scores: England: 126 all out in 20 overs (Heather Knight 52; Shreyanka Patil 3 for 19, Saika Ishaque 3 for 22) vs India women.
