Maharashtra PWD Minister Ashok Chavan, who has tested positive for coronavirus, was on Monday admitted in a hospital here, a close aide said.

He left for Mumbai from Nanded earlier in the day where he tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment, in a cardiac ambulance on Monday.

The senior Congress leader was seen waving at people as he boarded the ambulance for Mumbai. Permissions for an air ambulance reportedly could not be procured. However, this comes at a time when MHA guidelines have clearly states that air services are allowed for medical emergencies.

Chavan was admitted in Lilavati hospital here for COVID-19 treatment.

Chavan had contracted the infection a few days ago and is undergoing treatment, a Health official had said on Sunday. He had attended some meetings in the last week in Mumbai before travelling back to his home district in Marathwada.

He is the second Cabinet Minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to test positive after Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad was diagnosed last month. After nearly a month's treatment, Awhad was fully cured and discharged.
