The men in blue kept fans glued to their screens, eventually emerging victorious by beating Australia by six wickets. It was the partnership between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul that brought the victory home. KL Rahul hit the winning six of the match and scored 97 runs not out. After his stellar performance, proud wife Athiya Shetty took to social media to express her joy.
Athiya Shetty took to her Instagram story on Sunday to celebrate her cricketer husband’s victory in India’s first match this World Cup season. In one story, she shared a photo of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli from their batting innings. She captioned the photo with an Indian flag and salute emoji. Later, Athiya also reposted ICC’s reel featuring KL Rahul hitting the winning six. She captioned the story, “Best guy ever.”
Not only Athiya but Ayushmann Khurrana also took to his Instagram story to laud KL Rahul for his exemplary performance. The Dream Girl 2 actor shared a photo of the cricketer with an Indian flag emoji and a clapping hands emoji. Anushka Sharma also took to her story to laud Virat and KL Rahul’s partnership.
For the unversed, the Indian team was chasing a score of 200 runs against the Australian team. Team India was put in a spot initially when they lost three wickets early in the game, including skipper Rohit Sharma who got run out at zero. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s partnership helped the team win the match. To get to their target, Virat scored 85 runs and KL Rahul scored 97 runs.
Now, India will play against Afghanistan on October 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Fans are eager to see if Athiya will fly to the national capital to support her husband for the match.
