In 2013, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel marked the beginning of the DC Extended Universe, which concluded with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. James Gunn is now the co-CEO of DC Studios, and he is building a new universe known as the DCU. Some may be curious about Snyder’s thoughts about the significant changes, given that he established the direction and worked closely with the DCEU for many years. Snyder says he is “excited” for what is to come as Gunn and Peter Safran begin a new storyline for the DC superheroes.

“You know, I’m pretty open book,” Snyder stated in a recent interview on the upcoming DCU with CBR.

He voiced his belief that if the characters get treated with respect and historical accuracy, he will be down for it. In addition, he stated that he was “excited” to be getting Superman soon and that he was curious to see what it would be like.

Following Snyder’s public statements, Gunn turned to Threads to discuss Snyder’s personal reaction to the DCU. After being asked to respond by another Threads user, Gunn provided a brief but encouraging response.

A user asked, “Did you see Zack Snyder is excited about the DCU?”

To which Gunn replied, “I didn’t but I knew it already because he’s texted me. He’s been incredibly supportive throughout this process.”

Snyder directed Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel, among other DCEU films. Snyder had planned to direct Justice League’s original theatrical cut, but he decided to walk out due to the untimely passing of his daughter, Autumn Snyder. Justice League was completed and released by Joss Whedon, but a lot of people were upset enough that Warner Bros. decided to release the director’s cut, which had a lot more content and extended scenes.

In the upcoming years, Gunn and Safran will have a huge challenge ahead of them as they attempt to adapt a complete timeline. Superman will mark the beginning of the new DCU and the release of the first wave of films and television series. The first phase, dubbed Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, is anticipated to feature the introduction of several heroes and villains, including Supergirl, Booster Gold, Swamp Thing, The Authority, Superman, and the Amazons.
