Fardeen Khan returned to the limelight recently after his appearance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix show, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. He returned to the fray of acting after 14 long years. Fardeen Khan was one of the star kids who were launched by their fathers with ambitious projects. Fardeen debuted with the 1998 film Prem Aggan, written, produced and directed by his father, Feroz Khan. The film tanked at the box office but Fardeen’s charming screen presence was noticed and he was not written off like some are after a disastrous debut. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Fardeen opened up about his complex relationship with his father, saying that Feroz Khan was not an ‘expressive father’ and stayed mostly to himself. Fardeen also said that while Feroz Khan was protective of him, he was also intimidating and that he was scared of his father.
About his debut film, Fardeen said that he was not ready for it and more so, working with his larger-than-life father was scary. He said that while he was liberal, Feroz Khan was not someone you would want to mess around with. “Some of my friends used to call me FK and if he was around, he would say, ‘There is only one FK’”. Fardeen said.
Talking about his lack of expression, Fardeen said that his father would tell everyone about how he loved his son but he never directly told him. “Maybe, in later years, he became somewhat expressive, but not at first. He was very much introverted and focused on himself. He was protective, especially of his family, but not very open with his feelings. My mother, on the other hand, made up for his lack of expressiveness. I have a wonderful relationship with her. Right now, she isn’t happy with me. I’ve acted a bit foolishly. We have our occasional arguments, and we recently had one of those spats,” he said.
Feroz Khan passed away in 2009 at the age of 69. His last appearance was in the 2007 comedy film Welcome.
