Vikram And Suriya To Star In Shankar's Next After Game Changer? What We Know
Shankar will direct a film based on the novel Velpari, authored by SU Venkatesan.

One of the most illustrious filmmakers in the history of South Indian cinema, Shankar, is set to bring back his magic to the big screens. If the reports are true, the director will be reuniting with two leading names from the industry for his highly anticipated next project. Here are all the details related to the release.

As per the reports, Shankar is expected to direct a film based on the novel Velpari, authored by SU Venkatesan. For the new project, the director has reportedly roped in Vikram and Suriya, two of South’s biggest names, as the leads. It is said to be a historical drama release, added the reports. So, if the project gets to its final stages of production, the film will be Vikram’s third with Shankar and Suriya collaborating for the first time.

The story of the book Velpari follows the mysteries of the Chera, Chola and Pandyan tribes and their war against the small country of Parambu as well as its resident Pari Vallal. Other aspects of the novel include the peculiar nature of Pari Vallal and his decision to stay in Parambu, stated the reports.

Vikram and Suriya’s first collaboration was the film Pithamagan, which was released in 2003. The action-drama release was directed by Bala who also wrote its screenplay. It also starred names like Laila, Sangeetha, Karunaas, Manobala and others. The film is produced by V A Durai and made under the banner of Evergreen Movie International. The music is done by Ilaiyaraaja while the cinematographer is Balasubrahmannyam and Suresh Urs has done the editing.

Meanwhile, Shankar last worked on Indian 2, released on July 12. The film saw Kamal Haasan reprising the role of Senapathy along with two other portrayals. The cast also included Siddharth, S J Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Rakul Preet Singh. It was produced by Subaskaran Allirajah and Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banners of Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies while Anirudh Ravichander did the music.
