Vijay Varma Says Jaideep Ahlawat Wept When Friends Didn't Turn Up At His 'Rescheduled' Wedding: 'We Were Broke'
Vijay Varma shared how he and his friends accidentally missed Jaideep Ahlawat’s wedding in 2009.

In a fun and heartwarming story, Vijay Varma shared how he and his friends accidentally missed Jaideep Ahlawat’s wedding in 2009. Jaideep, who was in Vijay’s batch at FTII, had announced his wedding, and everyone was excited.

“We came to Mumbai in 2008. His wife, Jyoti (Hooda), was our junior at FTII. He had told us in advance that they were in a relationship, so we knew ‘bhabhi’ was arriving soon,” Vijay recalled in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India.

When Jaideep set the date, Vijay and his friends were thrilled, even though they were broke. He recalled, “We were very broke but very excited. We knew we had to attend the wedding, no matter what. We booked our train tickets and bought clothes in advance.”

But fate had other plans. Jaideep landed his first film with director Priyadarshan, which clashed with his wedding date. Priyadarshan advised him to delay the wedding and said, “Shaadi aage kar lo.” Realising how important this was for his career, Jaideep decided to move the wedding back by a week. He later starred in Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha (2010) with Akshay Kumar and Trisha Krishnan.

Unfortunately, this change of plans left Vijay and his friends in a tough spot. They didn’t know what to do with the tickets they had already bought and they had little to no money to buy tickets again on a different date. Vijay said, “We didn’t know what to do with our tickets. We were like, ‘dobara toh nahi kharid paayenge’ (we won’t be able to buy them again).” The group couldn’t go to the rescheduled wedding, which made Jaideep feel rather disappointed. For six to eight months, the friends didn’t talk about it, knowing they all felt guilty. “We knew we had wronged him, and he felt he had wronged us by postponing the wedding.”

All hell broke loose during a get-together months later when Jaideep confronted his friends about missing his wedding. Vijay remembered the emotional moment. He said, “He was sulking. We had some ‘juice’, and after a few drinks, he started howling, complaining that none of his friends attended his wedding. Looking at him, all of us started crying with him, juice ke nashe mein.”
