‘Too Much To Do’: Jimmy Kimmel Explains Why He Will Not Host 2025 Oscars
During a recent episode of Politickin’ podcast, Jimmy Kimmel revealed that the demands of hosting Oscars have become overwhelming.

Popular American host Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed that he will not be hosting the prestigious Oscars next year. He initially hosted the Academy Awards two consecutive years, 2017 and 2018 and then made a comeback in 2023 and 2024. He shared his decision during a recent episode of Politickin’ podcast. Explaining his reasoning, Kimmel revealed that the demands of hosting the event have become overwhelming.

“I just decided I didn’t want to deal with that this year. It was just too much last year. You wind up pushing everything off till after the Oscars, and then you have to do everything you promised to do after the Oscars, after the Oscars,” Kimmel shared on the Politickin’ podcast. Kimmel further shared that he successfully hosted the Oscars previously and enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction that came with the job well done. However, he admitted that doing it for three consecutive years was “too much to do.”

Kimmel opened up about how preparing for Oscars took a significant toll on him and his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! writers. He admitted that he is not “good at balancing.” “I’m all in when it comes to something like the Oscars. I think about it in the morning and at night, and when I have ideas, I want to work on them, and then my nightly show seems like a nuisance. We have all our writers from the show working on the Oscars, so it distracts them,” he added.

Kimmel candidly shared that hosting Oscars isn’t a highly paid gig, revealing that he was paid $15,000 (approximately Rs 12.5 lakh) for all of his work on the 2024 ceremony.

Discussing potential successors, Kimmel acknowledged that while there is plenty of talent out there who could do a great job hosting the Oscars, most are reluctant to take on the demanding role. He noted that hosting Oscars requires a significant commitment and many people who would excel at it are aware of the challenges and choose to avoid it. “So they say it’s a thankless job. And I wouldn’t necessarily describe it like that, because when it goes well, it isn’t. But if it’s not, it’s a tough spot to be in,” he added.

The nominees for the 2025 Oscars are set to be announced on January 17, 2025. The ceremony will take place on March 2, 2025 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, US. Kimmel hosted the 2024 Academy Awards with Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. As per reports, if Kimmel had chosen to return in 2025, he would have joined Johnny Carson, a five-time host of the event.
