Producer Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr.'s wife, offered hope for the Sherlock Holmes franchise's future.

Guy Ritchie, in collaboration with Amazon Prime, is gearing up to bring a young version of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes to the streaming platform. However, fans are still waiting for the good news regarding Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes 3. Downey played Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective in the 2009 film and its 2011 sequel. While fans always desired a third instalment, various challenges have hindered the project’s progress.

In a recent interview with Screenrant, producer Susan Downey, Robert’s wife, offered hope for the franchise’s future. During the conversation, she mentioned that Robert and Jude Law, who played Dr Watson, still spend time together, and she always wonders about reuniting the two on the big screen.

While she didn’t reveal any major news, Susan assured fans that they had something interesting planned for hopeful fans. During the promotions of Sweet Tooth season 3, she said, “I mean, look, no, there’s no update, other than it’s still very much alive in our hearts. Every day we talk about, ‘What is the best next version of that?’ Because anytime I see Robert and Jude together, which fortunately, I do get to see a few times a year, we hang out and I’m just like, ‘Can I get these guys back on screen together?’ it’s magic. There needs to be a really strong reason, it needs to be a great story and we do have some things in the works.

Though fans might have to wait longer for Sherlock Holmes 3, a new teenage detective series is in the works. The story about Holmes during his younger days is currently under production featuring Hero Fiennes Tiffin, as the young detective. Guy Ritchie, who directed Robert Downey Jr.’s Holmes movies, will also direct and produce the upcoming series.

While no release date has been announced yet, in an interview with Variety, the filmmaker claimed that the audience is “going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before. We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

The upcoming series is based on the eight-part novel written by Andy Lane, titled Young Sherlock Holmes.
