Missed Amar Kaushik’s hit horror-comedy Stree 2 in theaters? You can now catch the film from the comfort of your home. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, the movie is streaming on Prime Video India, starting Wednesday, October 10. While Stree 2 was accessible on the platform since September 27 via a rental option at ₹349 for a 48-hour viewing period, it is now available to all Prime Video subscribers without extra cost.
Stree 2 continues to enjoy a successful theatrical run, having hit cinemas on August 14, coinciding with Independence Day. Two other Bollywood films that released the same week as Stree 2 have also made their way to streaming today. Khel Khel Mein, a dramedy directed by Mudassar Aziz and featuring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal, and Vaani Kapoor, is now streaming on Netflix India after earning ₹39.3 crore at the domestic box office.
Simultaneously, Nikkhil Advani’s action thriller Vedaa, starring John Abraham, Sharvari, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Abhishek Banerjee, has debuted on ZEE5. The film, produced under Nikkhil’s Emmay Entertainment banner, amassed ₹21.47 crore at the Indian box office.
As the sequel to Amar Kaushik’s 2018 directorial debut Stree, Stree 2 is part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, which also includes Bhediya and Munjya. Alongside Rajkummar and Shraddha, the film features returning cast members Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi, while Tamannaah Bhatia joined as a new addition. The movie also includes a cameo by Varun Dhawan as Bhediya. With over ₹600 crore in box office earnings, Stree 2 has set a new benchmark as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.
Reports suggest that the makers are considering a spin-off aimed at Shraddha Kapoor’s character, discovering the backstory of her life and her relationship with Stree.
The News18 Showsha review of the film reads, “On the acting front, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao steer the ship effortlessly to the end. It’s refreshing to see Shraddha in an action role, and she should explore more of it in the future. However, it’s disappointing that her role is limited, especially given how much the Stree universe relies on her character. Rajkummar Rao delivers another memorable performance, showcasing his versatility across genres, from serious in Shrikant to emotionally intense in Mr & Mrs Mahi, and now comedy in Stree 2.”
It further read, “Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana are scene-stealers. They keep the film afloat during slower moments, and Pankaj and Abhishek’s on-screen camaraderie is a highlight.”
