Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, had earlier leveled accusations against the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann, alleging harassment following the birth of his second son. Balkaur Singh and his wife Charan Kaur celebrated the arrival of their newborn baby boy on March 17, marking nearly two years since the loss of their only son, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, affectionately known as Sidhu Moose Wala.
As per the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, women seeking ART Services should be between 21 and 50 years old. However, Moosewala’s mother was 57 when she conceived her second child, sparking concerns. According to reports, the Centre had asked the asked the Punjab government to respond. In a recent interview with the Indian Express, 58-year-old Balkaur Singh explained that the baby was conceived through IVF abroad, not violating any laws. “There was no violation since our baby was conceived abroad. After we returned to India, we informed the local health authorities about the pregnancy too,” he said.
Balkaur said that even Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s mother called to congratulate them. Singer Gurdas Maan visited them after Shubh’s birth and placed his gold chain at the child’s feet. Singh shared that despite the low success rate of IVF after the age of 50, they succeeded on their first try. “We just wanted to become parents again, irrespective of the gender. Our doctors from abroad would send us lists of tests over WhatsApp and we would get them done in Bathinda.”
In the interview, Balkaur said that Charan Kaur struggled with multiple injections daily. He recalled a terrifying moment when she began bleeding heavily one night. “She started bleeding profusely late at night. My heart was in my mouth as I rushed her to a private hospital in Bathinda. Had something happened to her that day, I would have lost everything,” he said.
Balkaur Singh admitted that Little Shubh wouldn’t have a normal childhood like Sidhu did. He added, “He will always be under public gaze, and won’t be able to roam in fields and go to school in a van. Maybe he will get more success in life, but it is not easy to be Sidhu Moosewala”, he said.
Sidhu Moosewala was tragically murdered on May 29 of the same year. He was shot dead by assailants in his car on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village of Mansa district. The singer was really popular, particularly among the youth, and was known for composing and producing his own songs.
