2015 was indeed an exceptional year for cinema goers. From independent films finding several takers to small-budget projects winning critical acclaim, and of course Khan films setting the cash registers ringing at the box office – the viewers experienced a mix of good, thought-provoking and impactful cinema. But this isn’t to state that 2016 doesn’t have anything interesting in store for movie buffs. Here's a lowdown on the films that creates huge buzz in 2015 and find official releases this year!

Airlift: While the first Friday of the year doesn’t witness the release of any Bollywood project, the first big film – Airlift- hits the theaters on January 22. Based on the biggest evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war, the film features Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur. Shot in Ras-Al-Khaimah and Rajasthan, the film has Akshay playing Kuwait-based businessman Ranjit Katyal. To make fans aware of the most important part of Indian history, the actor took to Twitter recently to share a recap of the events that resulted in the evacuation.

Raees: Shah Rukh Khan fans definitely have a reason to rejoice on Eid this year. If the buzz and curiosity created ever since the first look of his much awaited film ‘Raees’ is anything to go by, Shah Rukh Khan won’t find it difficult in having people throng the cinema halls in huge droves. As reports suggest, the film is set in Gujarat (1980s) and deals with several key issues such as ban on alcohol, prostitution and illegal drugs. Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the titular role, promises to offer a different film. At least that’s what his bespectacled and bearded look, body language and hard-hitting dialogue ‘Baniya ka dimag and miyabhai ki daring’ suggest. Co produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Rahul Dholakia, the film will also mark Bollywood debut of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.

Dangal: There is reason why we wait for Aamir Khan’s films. Much like his past projects, his upcoming film ‘Dangal’ will not just be about interesting content but also about his new look. Mr Perfectionist has undergone severe transformation post his last release ‘PK’. and has bulked up for his role in the movie ‘Dangal’. Since ‘Dangal’ is loosely based on wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat’s life, and Aamir essays the role, he has been working hard to beef up his physique. As Aamir’s gaze in the first poster of ‘Dangal’ suggests, the film will be intense. The movie will also show how Mr Phogat’s daughters Geeta and Babita were trained to be part of India's most celebrated female wrestling champs.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: While his last film ‘Tamasha’ earned mixed reviews from the viewers, there was no doubt about Ranbir Kapoor’s range as an actor. This year, he gears up for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The film has been making headlines for not just Aishwarya playing Ranbir’s ladylove but also because it marks Karan Johar’s come back to direction after 2012 hit ‘Student of the Year’. With an extraordinary love story and an impressive star cast, it will be one of the most anticipated films of 2016.

Fan: It will definitely be an important year for Shah Rukh Khan. For with ‘Fan’ the star’s fans get to see him in two completely different looks. Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Maneesh Sharma, the film will strike a chord with all those fans who’ve either taken a selfie or photograph with Mannat as the backdrop. The teaser which was released on SRK’s birthday also revealed the look of the Gaurav protagonist’s fan. We all are waiting for the film to release on April 2016.

Sultan: If you thought it was just Aamir Khan who has been busy putting on weight to do justice to his role as a wrestler in ‘Dangal’, you’ve probably missed Salman Khan’s look in Yash Raj Film's action drama ‘Sultan’. The bulked-up Salman not only sports cropped hair, but also been making headline for the new handlebar mustache and stubble to complete his rough look. Since Salman plays Haryana-based wrestler Kesari Sultan, he has been taking several wrestling lessons from Larnell Stovall and MMA fighters.

Rock On 2: Who isn’t waiting for the sequel of ‘Rock On’? The film which wowed everyone with soulful music and impressive performances, will have a sequel that released this year. Those who have been following the photos taken from the shoot in Shillong, know why it is the most awaited film of 2015.
