Samrat Prithviraj Box Office Collection Day 5: Film Struggles As Theatres Allegedly Cancel Shows
Samrat Prithviraj did not show any jump in numbers of Tuesday, and the collections of the Akshay Kumar film remained low. It is yet to cross the 50 crore mark

Samrat Prithviraj was the biggest release last weekend. The YRF film, which has Akshay Kumar in the titular role, recorded an underwhelming opening. While it did pull up in its first weekend, looks like it is hitting a dud again as the week progresses.

The film, helmed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, showed a dip on Tuesday as well after Monday’s severe dip. On Tuesday, the film collected Rs. 4.25 crore as compared to Rs. 5 crores on Monday. Even now, the film has not been able to reach the 50 crore mark and the total collection stands at Rs. 48.65 crores. It would reach the mark by today. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#SamratPrithviraj continues its downward trend… Trending is extremely weak, there’s zilch hope to cover lost ground on weekdays or next weekend…Fri 10.70 cr, Sat 12.60 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 5 cr, Tue 4.25 cr. Total: ₹ 48.65 cr. #India biz.” See the tweet here:

With the performance of the film meeting expectations, it is reported that Samrat Prithviraj is allegedly facing another hurdle. Bollywood Hungama has claimed that due to an alleged lack of footfalls in the theatres for the film, theatres are cancelling shows. A source told the publication, “The business in Mumbai city was not up to the mark even on the weekends. Hence, it was bound to have a drop on Monday. Yet, we didn’t expect show cancellations in the morning due to zero audience. Where shows didn’t cancel, the occupancy was in the single digits. The scenario is similar on Tuesday as well.”

The grapevine added that the film is drawing the same picture in Kolkata and Bengaluru. “Delhi was marginally better. The film has put up well in Hindi belts. However, the metros with a high density of multiplexes and higher ticket rates underperformed on the first three days and hence these theatres are performing poorly from Monday onwards.”

Meanwhile, the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 stands in stark contrast. Even on its third Tuesday, the Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani starrer collected Rs. 2.16 crores and is now eying the 200 crore mark. In fact, it has already crossed the mark worldwide.
