It took Bollywood three years to discover A R Rahman's musical prodigy, after Ram Gopal Verma hired him as the music composer his 1995 movie Rangeela (Rahman's first film score was Mani Ratnam's Tamil-language Roja in 1992), but he's been inundated with Hindi film offers ever since. And while he has churned out some of the most memorable film music from Bollywood over the last two decades, Rahman never gravitated too far from his origins. OK, who are we kidding? The man's even scored for a Mandarin-language film. Still though, he's continued to leave his unique musical imprint on Tamil cinema. Even as Twitter explodes in furor over his latest concert in the UK, we give you a quick musical primer on his Tamil oeuvre.
