London: This has been the noisiest Oscars and controversies over nominations marred Hollywood’s biggest award ceremony as soon as they were announced. The nominations brought to fore racism debate and pointed at the lack of diversity as no black actor was nominated in the top Best actor/actress categories.

Though before Oscars 2016, there have been five major Academy Award controversies, which shook the world but racism debate is the most relevant one in current scenario. One of the previous controversies included the one involving legendary actor Marlon Brando (he had won the Best Actor Award for 'The Godfather') deputing a Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather, to highlight the plight of American Indians in 1973.

Leonardo Di Caprio is one of the front runners for the Best Actors award for the movie 'The Revenant', but the sceptics have already placed their money on other nominees calling Leo as a ham. (Image Courtesy: Twitter)

Let’s check out how the 88th Academy Awards 2016 will be different from the previous ones:

Oscar statue gets a makeover: This year’s statuettes will be produced by Polich Tallix Fine Art Fooundry and will be hand-cast in bronze before receiving their 24-karat gold finish. The Tallix artisans are using the original design of the statue as it was in 1929 (when the Oscars started).

Racism debate at the red carpet: A comment on lack of diversity and no nomination of black actors will definitely rule the red carpet. The favourite media question for the celebrities used to be ‘who are you wearing’, but this year it will be based on this widely discussed topic.

The winners will have to make peace with Oscar scroll: The winners will not have to carry a crumpled piece of paper to thank their mentors, filmmakers and loved ones in the acceptance speech. Instead an Oscar scroll will run simultaneously for the winners to acknowledge their thank-you.

All eyes on Leonardo Di Caprio: Since 'Titanic' actor Leonardo Di Caprio was famously snubbed at the Oscars, for the past several years for many of his memorable performances. His committed performance as Hugh Glass - a Bison-liver eating explorer has raised the chances. On Sunday, we will get to know if Leonardo will win his first Oscar or not.

A-list black actors will give Oscars a miss: A long list of actors including Men In Black star Will Smith, Halle Berry, the only black woman to have won an Oscar (for the movie Monster’s Ball), filmmaker Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith, who started the hashtag #Oscarsowhite, will not be a part of the Oscars night. By skipping the Oscars, these actors want to vehemently protest against no nomination of the black actors.
