It’s official—Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan and Tamil cinema icon Rajinikanth are set to share the screen once again, nearly 30 years after their previous collaboration in Aatank Hi Aatank (1995). Aamir will make a special cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s upcoming action thriller Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, as per a report by Peeping Moon.
While details about Aamir’s role are being kept tightly under wraps, it’s rumored to be a uniquely crafted character, specifically designed by Lokesh Kanagaraj for the actor. The director has planned a brief but impactful sequence where Aamir and Rajinikanth will share the screen, promising a crowd-pleasing moment that not only serves the narrative but also heightens the excitement surrounding the film. Aamir has already given his dates, and the cameo will be filmed during Coolie’s upcoming schedule, starting October 15 in Chennai.
Coolie, which marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film as the lead, features an impressive cast that includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. Aamir’s involvement adds even more buzz to the film, especially as rumors have been swirling about a potential full-length feature collaboration between Aamir and Lokesh Kanagaraj. This cameo marks Aamir’s third in just six months, following his appearances in Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947 and Vir Das’ Happy Patel. Aamir is also set to star in RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, releasing in March 2025, and is in talks for a comedy with Rajkumar Santoshi and a project with Rajkumar Hirani, although neither has been finalized yet.
Meanwhile, Coolie is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth in the titular role, alongside Soubin Shahir, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Upendra.
The producers of the upcoming action film had previously released an exciting title teaser that featured superstar Rajinikanth fighting villains in a factory-like environment. The brief peek was captured in a monochrome style, with only the gold hue accentuated.
The teaser received a massive reception from viewers, who are eagerly waiting for this exciting collaboration.The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Girish Gangadharan, and editing by Philomin Raj. Coolie will be released in both worldwild and IMAX formats across the world in 2025.
