Kannada actor Sudeep Sanjeev, widely recognised by his fans as Kiccha Sudeepa, has garnered a pan-Indian fan base over the years. The multi-talented actor, who also takes on the roles of director and producer, turns 51 on September 2, 2024. His admirers have plenty of reasons to honour his extensive contributions to the entertainment industry. Throughout his career, which spans more than two decades, Kiccha Sudeepa has accumulated numerous awards and nominations. Among his many accolades, he stands out as the only actor to have won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Kannada three years in a row, from 2001 to 2003.

How did he get the title of Kiccha?

Kiccha Sudeepa’s journey into stardom began with the film Huchcha. The character Kiccha, which he portrayed in the film, became so ingrained in the minds of his fans that they began calling him by this name, making it an integral part of his identity since 2001.

  1. Huchcha (2001)Kiccha Sudeepa earned Filmfare Awards for Best Actor for his lead role in Huchcha. The story of the film revolves around Sachidananda, a popular student who wins collegiate elections through influence and violence. Along the way, he makes some enemies and falls in love with a conservative girl.
  2. Nandhi (2002)His second Filmfare Award for Best Actor came after the release of Nandhi. In the film, a young man is wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, which forces him to align with a gangster. However, he later decides to leave behind his criminal activities to reunite with his family.
  3. Swathi Muthu (2003)Kiccha Sudeepa received his record-breaking third consecutive Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Swathi Muthu. He plays Shivaiah, who lives with autism and marries Lalitha, a young widow. He defies the customs of his village. To escape the villagers’ wrath, they relocate to the city.
  4. Eega (2012)The actor also won the award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu, at the Filmfare Awards, for Eega. He played the antagonist in the film. The plot tells the story of Nani, who is in love with Bindu but is murdered by a jealous Sudeepa. Nani is reincarnated as a fly and seeks to avenge his death, teaming up with Bindu to make Sudeepa’s life unbearable.

Apart from these awards, he has also won two awards at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival for Best Villain and Best Fight (with Nani) for Eega.

Upcoming Projects

King Kichcha (tentative), Kannada

Kiccha Sudeepa is set to return to directing after a 10-year hiatus with the project KRG – 6 Story. He has teamed up with young and creative filmmakers Karthik Gowda and Yogi G Raj, with the release date slated for September 27.

Max, Kannada

He is producing Max, an action movie directed by Vijay Kartikeyaa, where he also plays the lead role. The film’s music is composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, with cinematography by Shekar Chandra and editing by SR Ganesh Babu. It is set to release on September 27 and will be a PAN India film available in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

Billa Ranga Baashaa, Kannada

Set to release on October 25, Sudeepa stars in Billa Ranga Baashaa, an adventure thriller directed by Anup Bhandari and produced by SuPriYanvi Picture Studio and KSK Showreel Banner.

Kiccha 47 (tentative), Kannada

Kiccha 47 is an upcoming Kannada movie directed by Tamil filmmaker Cheran, featuring Kiccha Sudeepa and Srinidhi Shetty in lead roles. The film, produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, is scheduled for release on October 11.
