Kangana Ranaut, known for her bold opinions, recently took to social media to express her admiration for Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik after the film’s record-breaking opening. The horror-comedy sequel, which is the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, hit theaters on Independence Day and has already been making waves at the box office.
In a heartfelt Instagram story, Kangana shared her thoughts on the crucial role that directors play in the success of a film. She wrote, “Movie Stree has shattered all records. Congratulations to the entire team, but the real hero of a film is the director. In India, we don’t give enough credit or appreciation to directors. That’s why not many youngsters want to be writers or directors.”
Kangana emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating the contributions of directors, who often remain behind the scenes despite being instrumental in the making of a movie. “Everyone who wants a career in films meets me for guidance, wants to be either an actor or a superstar. Who will make movies if all become actors? Socho! So please learn the names of all good directors who do so much to entertain and engage you, and please follow them. Also, learn about their lives and process as well. Please appreciate them and encourage them too,” she added.
She concluded her note with a personal message to Amar Kaushik, saying, “Dear @amarkaushik sir, thank you for this much-needed all-time blockbuster.”
Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, opened to an impressive Rs 76.5 crore gross in India on its first day, including earnings from paid previews. The film’s success was celebrated by its producers, Maddock Films, who took to social media to announce, “Stree 2 creates HISTORY! India’s highest Day 1 Box office ever! Thank you, audience, for all the love.”
The film is a continuation of the Maddock Supernatural Universe, which began with the original Stree in 2018. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the first film set the tone for a series of successful horror-comedies, including Roohi (2021), Bhediya (2022), and the most recent release, Munjya.
With Stree 2 smashing records, Kangana’s recognition of the director’s pivotal role is a reminder of the often-overlooked heroes behind the camera.
