Kaala Trailer Review: Rajinikanth is Back As the 'King of Dharavi'
Helmed by Pa Ranjith, 'Kaala' is set to hit the screens on June 7.

Thalaivar fans are on cloud nine as Rajinikanth has been ruling all social media platforms since last night. The makers of Kaala have released the trailer of Rajini's upcoming flick, and it promises to be an out-and-out commercial treat.

The trailer opens with Nana Patekar promising the people to cleanse Dharavi of the 'dirt' that plagues the slums. The trailer screams of Rajini's mass appeal among the slum dwellers and his rapport with them. The next 30 seconds reveal the lighter and playful side of the don as we are introduced to Huma Qureshi and Eswari Rao and their relationship with 'Karikaalan'.

The rest of the trailer is a portrayal of good versus evil i.e, the battle between Rajini and Nana Patekar. Mid-way through the trailer, we see Nana Patekar describe Rajinikanth as 'Raavan'.

The dialogue is in stark contrast to the visuals which indicate communal tensions being incited by Patekar, who plays a politician in the movie.

While the makers and Rajinikanth himself have stated that Kaala will be a commercial film, the dialogues indicate that the film will surely have a strong political message. "Our body is our only weapon. The world must know this," says Kaala as he tries to organise the slum dwellers into a rebellion of sorts.

The trailer ends with a hard-hitting statement that fits all that has been going on in the state of Tamil Nadu. "To you (politicians), land is power. To us, it means life," is a reference to the issues of land and water that have troubled the southern state for the longest time now. Mixed with anti-establishment barbs, the trailer has been put together to reflect the mindset of the people who are still riddled with images of the anti-sterlite protest in Tuticorin.

Backed by a strong and powerful background score by Santosh Narayanan, Kaala promises to be a different film in Rajinikanth's film career. Helmed by Pa Ranjith, 'Kaala' is set to hit the screens on June 7.
