New Delhi: Actor Gulshan Devaiah's latest film 'Hunterrr' is the latest film to face diktats from the Censor board. According to media reports, the makers of the adult comedy have been instructed to re-dub a few scenes in the film which contain cuss words.
Explaining the re-dubbing, lead actor Gulshan Devaiah says, "Yes we were asked to re-dub few scenes but the reports that are doing the rounds are a bit exaggerated. To be honest there have been only 5 cuts in total. We had already anticipated the situation and had dubbed the scenes beforehand. Few words here and there have been muted."
"Despite the dub, the narrative of 'Hunterrr' is not grievously affected by the censor board," assures Devaiah over a chat with IBNLive.com.
When asked if the recent rules by the censor board effects cinematic liberties, the actor says, "Generally artists do not like censorship of any kind. With the new guidelines set by the Censor Board, every film is being treated equally by the board. Though, it will take some time for everything to set in."
While 'Hunterrr' has been given an adult certificate, the actor doesn't want to call it an 'adult film'. "It is a comedy film. Adult films have sexual overtones, double meaning dialogues; 'Hunterrr' isn't like that. Yes, the lead protagonist does have a large appetite for sex, but it has no double meaning dialogues in it. The ratings in India is such that we need to put a 'adult film' tag to it and make it restricted to 18 and above but if you ask me, I would say 'Hunterrr' is for 15 plus audience."
Devaiah, in fact, would want the ratings in films in India to be changed. "There should be age wise rating for films- like they have for films abroad. It is unfair to classify films in certain brackets."
The actor also feels that Indian audience is mature enough to understand and appreciate adult comedies. "The success of a film like 'Vicky Donor' which was about a sperm donor, is a prime example that the Indian audience are ready for adult comedies. I think we are unnecessarily hesitant, people are eager to watch good films. We are wrong in assuming that films won't work which have adult content."
The actor who is been part of films like 'Shaitaan' and 'Ram Leela', is working with Anurag Kashyap for the fourth time. Surely there is a great amount of comfort level that the two share? "Of course! I have worked with Anurag earlier but this is my first film with Phantom films. They support films that most people shy away from producing. Personally yes, I am comfortable working with Anurag Kashyap- I know the kind of work he believes in and he understands me as an actor."
Directed by Harshwardhan Kulkarni, 'Hunterrr' is scheduled to release in theatres on 20th March.
