Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is special in more than one way. Apart from being the filmmaker’s OTT debut, the drama series marks Fardeen Khan’s much-awaited comeback after 14 long years. Now, Fardeen Khan, who was last seen in the 2010 film Dulha Mil Gaya, in a conversation with FilmyGyan revealed that while he was away from the big screen, he just cut himself off.
The actor added that he has come back as a “newcomer.” Fardeen Khan said, “When I was away, I was very cut off from the industry for 12 years. I literally, literally just took off and I wasn’t really in touch with anyone as such. So, I have come back with this feeling of being a newcomer. I am here to learn. I am here to enjoy. I bring a different, fresh eye, and more and more life experiences. I am a little more wiser or less stupid, whichever way you want to say it.”
While expressing excitement for his comeback, the actor also spilled beans about two other projects that he has done this year. Fardeen Khan added, “So I am you know, it is for me, a whole new chapter in my life and exciting, exciting times. And I am just grateful to be back to work and you know working like this on a project with battalions like this. And I got to mention the other two films I have also done, which will be releasing this year. So exciting year for me.”
Earlier, in a conversation with News18 Showsha, Fardeen Khan talked about how he bagged the role of Wali Mohammed in Heeramandi. He recalled, “I was spotted at an award function by Shruti Mahajan, who has closely worked with Mr Bhansali over the years. I don’t know whether she was there or she saw me on television, but she thought that I would suit the character of Wali. She called me when I got back from Abu Dhabi. She told me that she would want me to meet Mr Bhansali and his team. And since I was away from the movies for so long, they just wanted to see if I really suited the part.”
The actor revealed that despite being away from the camera for more than a decade, he didn’t have to go through any audition process. “20 minutes into the meeting, Mr Bhansali came along to take a look at me. We had met previously too. And when he was convinced, he agreed to do a look test. I couldn’t believe my luck. I was just so grateful for the opportunity,” said Fardeen Khan.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will premiere on May 1 on Netflix. It also features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal in key roles.
